Holy Family School (HFS) has served the Fresh Meadows community for 60 years. The school is proud of the strong Catholic faith-based education it provides. It strongly promotes living the Gospel values daily. These values are taught in daily religion lessons, prayer, seasonal liturgies, service projects and weekly Mass attendance.
HFS expects each child to use his or her God-given talents. The school provides a very strong academic program for its students. Besides the major subjects, the school offers classes in Spanish, physical education, computer, library and music.
Dedicated teachers believe in engaging the whole child in his or her learning. Students are also taught life skills: decision-making, self-sufficiency, critical-thinking, responsibility and socialization.
“When a student graduates Holy Family School, he or she is prepared for the challenges of high school,” is a compliment often received.
HFS serves students from pre-K to grade eight. Most graduates go on to their first choice of Catholic high school. Approximately one-third of each graduating class receives scholarships to the high schools. The Class of 2014 won a total of five full scholarships. Students also place well in some of the elite public high schools – three graduates will attend Bronx H.S. of Science this September. In the last five years, two graduates were named valedictorians for their graduating class at Archbishop Molloy H.S.
The school has a state of the art media room with a SMART Board, SMART TV and laptops. The furniture can be moved for group as well as whole class learning. Most classrooms have SMART Boards.
HFS has a welcoming spirit. The school is proud of the diversity as seen at its annual International Festival. The students embrace new class members with open arms so that one cannot distinguish a student who has been here since pre-K from one newly enrolled. Students and families live up to the school’s name making it a “Holy Family.”
While located in Fresh Meadows, the school serves many of the surrounding communities and parts of Long Island. The proximity to St. John’s University and to many means of mass transit makes HFS a convenient school for commuting parents.
