Back to School 2014 – Innovators in Education at Most Holy Redeemer

Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Academy (MHRCA) is a diverse school community sensitive to the cultural origins of all. The mission of the academy is to promote each student’s intellectual and spiritual growth grounded in a deepening relationship with Jesus Christ.

The academic program, kindergarten through grade eight, supports New York State Common Core standards with SMART Boards/SMART Tables integrated with all subjects. Student support services through Title I are in ESL, math, reading and guidance. A learning lab and speech services are available to students. Fine arts instruction is in the areas of music, band, violin, dance and Spanish instruction for grades five through eight.

MHRCA is one of 12 Catholic schools in the country to have been chosen as a leader in bilingual education with its introduction of the Dual Language Program. Students are taught Mandarin and English using the 50/50 model. For more information, visit the website www.twin-cs.org.

Enrichment in math and science is provided through the STEM program. Nutrition, ecology and robotics provide stimulating projects for all students. This year, the school is continuing its partnership with New York Hospital Queens and the New York Cosmos soccer team on the nutrition grant. Soccer clinics are available after school. St. John’s University provides additional professional development in STEM as well as Project TIE (Training Innovative Educators).

This September, MHRCA will provide four full-day classes for universal preschool. Located in the heart of downtown Flushing, the academy is easily accessible from the No. 7 subway line and several city bus lines. All students are offered free breakfast and a free or reduced lunch.

MHRCA is open all year long, offering Saturday morning Chinese classes and a six-week summer program to children in the surrounding community.
