Currents News Heeds God’s Call for Creation
Dear Editor: I am so very grateful to Katie Vasquez of Currents News and Catholic News Updates for the fantastic coverage of the rally at City Hall on Aug. 13 supporting the Lights Out/Flaco’s Law (“Lights Out Bill, or ‘Flaco’s Law,’ Advocates Rally Support,” Aug. 14).
This legislation will help reduce light pollution, conserve energy, and help save the lives of over 250,000 migratory birds annually who perish as they pass through New York City, hitting buildings on their way to breeding and wintering grounds along the Atlantic Flyway.
Wildlife in general is affected by light pollution because it disrupts the natural cycles that species depend on for survival.
The bill will not only help protect wildlife but will also benefit humans. Light pollution affects our circadian rhythms, causing sleep disorders and increased risk of disease, as well as distorting our ability to view the night sky in all its glory.
God has given us the beauty of his creation.
It is up to us to protect, conserve, and be better stewards of the gifts that He has entrusted to us.

A Coach’s Kindness Remembered
Dear Editor: Congrats to all the inductees (“Basketball Old-Timers Talk Big Game at Annual Induction Ceremony,” Good Sports, May 16), with a special note to Bob Hurley Sr.
My son Edward C. McGee played for Holmdel High School in New Jersey. In 2001, they played St. Anthony’s, and after the game (of course St. Anthony’s won), Coach Hurley made a point of telling my son he played a great game.
To this day, when you ask him about his high school playing days, that is the one thing he remembers most.
Coach Hurley not only made a tremendous impact with his St. Anthony players; he was well respected by those who played against him.
Well-deserved honor, Coach Hurley!

Dear Editor: Sal [Fischetti], congratulations to you (“Fischetti Takes Over CHSAA After Nash’s Long Tenure,” Aug. 22).
I know you’ll do an outstanding job. Your passion for helping students and your outstanding service to Catholic School education are inspiring.
Best of luck and enjoy your new position. Ray [Nash] has been a great example, and I know you’ll follow his lead.

Congrats on Restoring Beauty, Inspiring Faith
Dear Editor: Beautiful job! God bless you and your work (“Artist Finishes St. Edmund’s Pane-Staking Restoration,” story, page 1).
I’ve been to St. Edmund Church only once for Sunday Mass, when I was visiting a friend in Rockaway.
I was saddened to hear what had happened to the church, but glad that restoration has been done.
God bless you & your artistic ability!
