Appreciative of Pope Leo XIV’s Apology

Dear Editor: Peace be to Pope Leo XIV from me, my family, and my friends.

The Holy Father is teaching, and we must listen and learn (“Pope Leo’s Slavery Apology Well Received in Diocese of Brooklyn,” June 13).

It’s not just about slavery; it’s about how we treat each other in words and actions and intent.

There is a very important lesson here, and it’s not just about the Catholic Church or the Catholic religion.

Those of us who know what it means to have had to struggle also remember what Jesus said about casting the first stone.

Dear Editor: Thank you, Pope Leo (“Pope Leo’s Slavery Apology Well Received in Diocese of Brooklyn,” June 13).
God bless you. You are a voice for the voiceless.

Continue to be the light for the world to see good and God’s love for all through you.

Honoring St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

Dear Editor: Thank you for the wonderful article in a recent edition of The Tablet concerning St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (“St. Elizabeth Seton Shrine’s a Haven for Expectant Mothers,” June 6).

Some years ago, I developed a serious illness that no doctor I visited could diagnose. I was out of work for months until one day a neighbor rang my doorbell and handed me a prayer to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. I began reciting it that night.

The next day, I had an appointment with a well-known neurosurgeon who examined me for 10 minutes and then announced, “You’re allergic to such and such medication you are taking.”

I have always credited St. Elizabeth Ann Seton with that cure and still ask for her intercession on a daily basis.

Praying for Diocese of Brooklyn Priests

Dear Editor: I enjoyed reading the recent article about Raisa Diaz and the ministry she started in her parish, praying for priests (“Answered Prayers: Queens Pastor’s Mom Forms Group to Ask God to Help Priests,” June 6).

We certainly need more good young men to answer God’s call.

I am part of a group in my parish that prays the rosary every evening at 7:30 on Zoom.

We began it during COVID and have continued it ever since.

I mentioned it last evening, and we decided to include her petitions along with ours.

We have been blessed this past year to have a young seminarian, Aidan Birth, do his year of parish ministry under the guidance of our pastor, Father John Maduri.

Unfortunately, he leaves us next month to continue his coursework at the seminary. He has been a great asset to our parish, Mary Queen of Heaven-St. Bernard Clairvaux.

He has also done great with the kids as well. I only hope some of them will follow his example and discern God’s call.

I am a former member of the Catholic Daughters, which designated the first Sunday in June as “Priest Appreciation Day,” and on that day, our priests are remembered at Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.

I want to thank all priests for their hard work and dedication to the people of God, especially all those I have known through the years.

May God continue to bless them.
