CSW2013: Our Lady of Mercy School, Forest Hills

A Hope-Filled School

Our Lady of Mercy School, located in Forest Hills, seeks to provide a quality Catholic education for children, nursery to eighth grade, and nurtures the whole child through programs encompassing the spiritual, intellectual, social, psychological and physical development of its students.
Our Lady of Mercy is fully accredited by the Diocese of Brooklyn, the State of New York and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Through its religious education program, Our Lady of Mercy aims to develop a well-rounded Christian personality in its students, which is reflected in respect toward self and others as exemplified by Jesus in the Gospels.
The staff, in cooperation with the families of its students, works to assist children in developing a system by which to judge the use of values and skills. In this way, students will learn to be responsible and accountable.
The school mission flows from the Church’s participation in the mission of Jesus. As a hope-filled community, the school is committed to providing academic excellence integrated with a vision of life and learning centered in the Person and Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The school academic program follows New York State Standards and Diocese of Brooklyn guidelines. Students participate in a religious education as well as a full academic program, including six specialty subjects – library, technology, art, music, enrichment of remediation and physical education. Children from kindergarten to eighth grade learn Spanish as a foreign language.
Reading comprehension is a cornerstone of our education. Children in pre-k to second grade utilize the Super Kids reading program; third through fifth graders use the Reading Streets program; and students in grades six to eight sharpen reading skills with the Prentice Hall Literature program.
Our Lady of Mercy also provides extended care through its before-school and after-school programs.
