A Drop Blood and a Smidgen of Thought
During its annual blood drive, St. John’s Prep, Astoria, collected 71 pints of blood donated by administrators, faculty, staff and students. A shout-out goes to the school nurse, Kathy Sirchia, RN, who organized the drive and to the 11 Student Blood Captains who recruited and educated their peers about the importance of donating blood. They are: Tiffany Alvarez, Susan Bukala, Adam Diaz, Anthony Hale, Wynaldi McKenzi, Nicole Michaels, Devenray Rivera, Caroline Rodriquez, Melinda Sahinovic, Raven Valentin and Kevin Wang.
Year of Faith Youth Pilgrimage
Teenagers, 13-18, are invited to participate in a pilgrimage to the shrine of St. Kateri, sponsored by the Office of Faith Formation. The group will leave at 7 a.m. on May 4, and will return the same day at 8 p.m. A $20 payment includes all fees and lunch. Registration deadline is April 19. Youth Penance Service
The Bensonhurst Cluster Youth Ministry invites all youth for an interactive, reflective, penance service. This is a great way to prepare for Easter and share in a moment of experiencing God’s amazing love. The event will take place on March 19, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church, bath Beach. Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, congratulates the speech and debate team of William Kay, freshman, (pictured left) and Isaac Jean-Francois, also a freshman, (pictured right). They finished in first place in the Novice Public Forum Debate at The Mary Louis Academy, Jamaica Estates. Not only did the pair have a 3-0 record on the day, but this was also their first time debating together. William and Isaac have also earned half of their qualification for the State Championship in April.
