Sports Round-Up Feb. 1

Congratulations to the varsity bowling team from Cathedral Prep and Seminary, Elmhurst, for winning this year’s city championship.


In a span of two days, three local college basketball players reached the 1,000-career-point plateau. St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn, Clinton Hill, men’s basketball player Stephane Etheart (a graduate of St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows) accomplished the feat on Jan. 16. The following day, St. John’s University, Jamaica, women’s basketball teammates Alisha Keppe and Qadashah Hoopie reached the mark.


The nominees for the 2020 McDonald’s High School Basketball All-American games have been announced, and the following diocesan players earned the nod. The games will be played in Houston on April 1.
