New inductees at closed high school
FORT GREENE — Bishop Loughlin H.S., Fort Greene, was once again the site of the annual St. Augustine H.S., Park Slope, Hall of Fame induction ceremony and reunion held on Nov. 2.
This year, the celebration served to honor the five new members of the Lancer Hall of Fame who were in attendance and for the final graduating class of 1969 to enjoy its 50th reunion.
The ceremony also featured a look back at student-athletes and coaches who helped shape the Lancers athletic program from 1910 through 1969. In total, three coaches, seven teams and 20 athletes were inducted into the Hall of Fame, including the five who were present.
Basketball coach Jack Crenny won three city championships: 1929, 1930 and 1937. In indoor track, coach Alexander Pinkerton led his team to the city title in 1932, and coach Brother Michael Reynolds did so in 1953. Pinkerton also won three outdoor track titles: 1929, 1930 and 1932.
In addition to those coaches receiving the Hall of Fame nod posthumously, the city championship teams they coached were enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
