CK’s Newest Hall of Famers

Looks like there will be a new face on the staff at St. Rose of Lima, Rockaway Beach. Parishioner Stephanie Kavasansky has been named the coordinator of religious education. She assumes her new post in the fall. Best of luck!

Brooklyn Congregations United (BCU) has had a successful year in effecting positive change for the communities it serves. A Celebration Picnic for BCU members and friends is planned for July 16, 4-7 p.m., at the Flatbush Reformed Church, Flatbush and Church aves. The Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the Diocese of Scranton, Pa., will hold its 29th annual conference at the University of Scranton, Aug. 5-7. The theme: “Unity through Pentecost: One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism,” is taken from Ephesians 4:5. Father Anthony M. Ozele from the Diocese of Warri, Nigeria, who most recently served at Good Shepherd, Marine Park, will be the conference speaker. Special tracks for children, ages five-11, and young adults, 12-18. Kick up your heels and enjoy the music of the Ceol na Croi Ceili band on July 22. The Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens hosts its monthly dance at 297 Willis Ave., Mineola. Tea and soda bread will be served. For details, call 516-746-9392.

Attention golden agers living in and around Astoria: This summer, the Diamond Carmel Senior Group at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church will meet every Thursday at 1 p.m. for bingo, fellowship and tasty Danishes in air-conditioned splendor. Stop in, cool off and make some new acquaintances.

This week’s Tip of the Tablet Talk Top Hat goes to Jeanne Shannon, who recently celebrated 25 years of teaching at St. Elizabeth School, S. Ozone Park.  Principal William Ferguson congratulated and honored this exceptional educator at a luncheon held in her honor. At an assembly, students presented a program highlighting various events in her quarter century at the school.

The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia recently gathered in Our Lady of Angels Chapel, Aston, Pa., to celebrate the anniversaries of the congregation’s 26 jubilarians, including two who ministered in the Brooklyn Diocese: Sister Apollonia Morelli, O.S.F., above, left, marking 80 years of religious profession, served at St. Benedict School and Holy Family School and parish; and Sister Rosemary Napolitano, O.S.F., formerly Sister Conrad R. Caeli, marking 50 years of religious profession, who served at Holy Family School.
