Dear Editor: Did bishops, priests and deacons miss a golden opportunity to speak about the horrific legislation passed legalizing late term abortions during their homilies on Sunday, February 3?

Did those of us in the pews miss an opportunity to engage in a pro-life discussions with our families, friends, co-workers and legislators?

On that Sunday, the Word of God from the Prophet Jeremiah could not be any clearer. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you.” Such words speak volumes of the sacredness of all human life.

How can we continue to remain silent and not be moved by what is taking place in our culture?

On that same day we heard from Luke reminding us of the cost of being a disciple. In corporate America we are often told “to own the message,” when communicating challenging news.

As the venerable Archbishop Sheen once said during his acceptance of an Emmy award, “I have to thank my writers, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.”

We too have the same writer’s material and by our baptism are called to own the message.

May the Holy Spirit inspire all of us to proclaim God’s word in a world growing more and more adverse to religious morals and values.
