Dear Editor: He always pointed out the important things in life by telling us, ”Gentleman this is key.” He would encourage us each day by exhorting us with one word that would become his legacy to many of us: “Gentlemen, persevere” (“Msgr. Keane, Teacher and Pastor, Served As Priest For 60 Years,” Feb. 9).

He was a good and kind priest. He made it his business to know his students, his parishioners, their families and their problems. He really cared about people. He walked the walk and talked the talk. He was saintly in his own way; he was humble, he was happy and his smile would fill the auditorium or the Church.

He spoke the Truth and he did not equivocate. If you knew him, you could not help but to be encouraged in your faith. He influenced generations of young men, priests and laymen alike, to become better Christians. He was one of my real-life heroes. We will be less for his going. I’m certain today he rests in the arms of his Savior.

Dear Editor: It was with great sadness we heard of the death of my first cousin Msgr. Keane – known to me as Father Vincent Keane. I remember him celebrating Mass in my parents’ house in Swinford Co. Mayo, Ireland. He loved Ireland and his extended family relations.

He was a man of fine character and excellent judgment. May he rest in peace.
