It was a beautiful day and a beautiful show of faith in Astoria when more than 500 people joined Immaculate Conception Church for a parish-wide rosary and procession on Oct. 21. “Choosing Gospel Nonviolence in a Time of Terror and Turmoil” is the theme of Pax Christi Metro New York’s Fall Assembly, Nov. 4. The four-hour event runs 1-4 p.m. in Smith Hall at Manhattan College, Riverdale.

Run, walk or bike to help the Helping Hands Food Pantry in Park Slope on Saturday, Nov. 18. This is the ninth annual 5K event in Prospect Park to benefit the pantry, located in the basement of St. Augustine Church.
The event begins at 11 a.m. at the 15th Street/Prospect Park West entrance, rain or shine. All ages are welcome.
Donations will be used for the purchase of food for those in need.

Three Park Slope Boy Scouts are cleaning up a Gravesend cemetery as part of an Eagle Scout Service Project. Over the next two Saturdays, Nov. 5 and 12, Carmine Gentile of Troop 22 at St. Francis Xavier parish, and Brendan and Colin Cottingham of Troop 237 from Holy Name parish will work from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to beautify Old Gravesend Cemetery, which dates back to the mid-1600s. The young men are looking for some helping hands.
If you wish to support their efforts, meet them at the cemetery, located at Gravesend Neck Road and McDonald Avenue. A light breakfast and lunch will be served between work projects.
