Remains of More Than 300 Individuals Given Burial in Michigan

Earlier this week, the cremated remains of over 300 individuals were laid to rest in a ceremony presided over by Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing, Michigan. Some of the unclaimed remains had been kept in hospital storage for over two decades.

Students at St. Mark Catholic Academy, Sheepshead Bay, commemorated the 16th anniversary of the terrorists attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 with a morning prayer service in the schoolyard.

Hurricane Relief Collections

This weekend is the second opportunity for the suggested parish collection to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Bishop DiMarzio suggested Oct. 1 as the date for a voluntary collection to assist Hurricane Irma victims. The funds will be distributed through the Catholic Charities National Relief Fund or sent directly to the affected dioceses.

OLA’s 125th Year

A dinner-dance in honor of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Our Lady of Angels parish, Bay Ridge, was held Sept. 17 at Gargiulo’s Restaurant in Coney Island. The anniversary celebration continues with a street renaming on Saturday, Sept. 23, and jubilee liturgy on Sunday, Sept. 24.
