OLA’s 125th Year

A dinner-dance in honor of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of Our Lady of Angels parish, Bay Ridge, was held Sept. 17 at Gargiulo’s Restaurant in Coney Island. At the event, Bill and Kitty Sullivan, lifelong members of the parish, were inducted into the OLA Hall of Fame. The couple met in OLA School (Class of 1947) and were married in the church 61 years ago. Shown above, from left, are Msgr. Kevin Noone, pastor and native son of the parish; Rosemarie McGoldrick, principal of Holy Angels Catholic Academy; honorees Bill and Kitty Sullivan; and Michael Long, chairman of the dinner committee. Below, Msgr. Noone joins members of OLA’s Class of 1952 and their eighth-grade teacher. From left, Gerard McKenna, Dolores (Johnson) Wright, Sister Francis Pauline, S.C., Jim Nolan and Sister Grace, O.P. (nee Florence Carzangvari). The anniversary celebration continues this weekend with a street renaming on Saturday, Sept. 23, following the 5 p.m. Mass, and a visit from Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, who will celebrate the jubilee liturgy on Sunday, Sept. 24, at noon. A reception will follow in the school gymnasium. (Photos: Ed Wilkinson)
