Obituary — Sister Mary Terence Rogers, C.S.J.

Sister Mary Terence Rogers, C.S.J., a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, for 73 years, died in Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, Oct. 25.

She entered the congregation from St. Benedict Joseph parish, Richmond Hill, in 1940. She studied Spanish at Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Ponce, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Latin from St. John’s University. She later earned a master’s degree in school administration from New York University.

She taught at St. Francis Xavier, Park Slope, 1941-45; Academy of St. Joseph, Brentwood, 1945-47; St. Angela Hall Academy Elementary, Brooklyn, 1947-51; St. Athanasius, Bensonhurst, 1951-52; Colegio Santa Teresita, Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1952-55; Colegio San Conrado, Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1955-59, and 1974-75; Epiphany, Williamsburg, 1959-60; Holy Name of Mary, Valley Stream, 1966-67; St. Joseph H.S., Downtown Brooklyn, 1967-68; Stella Maris H.S., Rockaway Park, 1970-72; Academia Santa Monica, Santurce, Puerto Rico, 1972-74; Sacred Heart Academy H.S., Hempstead, L.I., 1975-79; Academy of St. Joseph H.S., Brentwood, 1979-83; Colegio Santa Teresita, 1983-87; and St. Patrick, Smithtown, L.I., 1987-91.

She was principal at Colegio Santa Teresita, 1960-63, and 1964-66, and at Transfiguration, Williamsburg, 1968-70; curriculum coordinator for all dioceses of Puerto Rico, Ponce, Puerto Rico, 1963-64; and service coordinator in Maria Regina Residence from 1991 until her retirement.

She also began the Diocese Migrant Workers Program in Mattituck, L.I., with other women religious and brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place in Maria Regina Chapel, Brentwood, Nov. 2. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
