Catherine McAuley H.S., a small, Catholic, girls’ high school sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy Mid-Atlantic Community, will close at the end of this school year because of declining enrollment, changing demographics, rising costs, increasing deficits and the economic downswing.
Over the past several years, the administration and staff of the East Flatbush school have made consistent efforts to increase the enrollment while keeping costs as affordable as possible. Despite these best efforts, enrollment has not increased.
The current enrollment is 155 students. The economic environment has caused many families to make alternative choices regarding high school education for their children.
As schools such as Catherine McAuley are tuition-driven, lower enrollments provide fewer resources to support the educational program.
The Sisters of Mercy and Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York, the boarding program at the school, will continue its partnership so the students can continue to benefit from a nurturing residential community on the McAuley campus while pursuing their secondary education at an area school.
For further details, call the school at 718-462-7282.

Hello my name is Jessica, kinda going way out on a limb here and praying someone may be able to help. My Grandmother went to High School here and I’m trying to locate any family information that I can find. Her name was Kathleen Callan, she then married my Grandfather Roger Lonigan and they had two sons. My Fathers name is Rory Lonigan and my Uncles name is Christopher Lonigan. I’m trying to locate where they’re both buried and have had no luck what so ever location any information on her. I know she passed away in roughly 1971-1972 from complications from breast cancer. When my Grandfather passed away when my Father was roughly 5 years old she remarried some time after then to a man by the name of Alfred Maskrey. Her parents names were John and Mary Callan. Please if you have any information or can guide me in the direction of someone who may know more information I can be reached via email Janb2711@gmail.com.
