Younger March for Life

Dear Editor: Those who were present at the March for Life in Washington, D.C., were energetic. I split off from the group to visit with some friends, who have been marching for many years. This was my 36th March, 37 including the big ’80s snow out.

The numbers of us who were at the first March in 1974 are dwindling. My present group is down from 20-plus to four. We meet, march and have lunch to celebrate another successful March for Life.

Pat Kelly, the new chairman of the March since Nellie Gray’s death, was right on target in his comment to the pilgrims present: “The March is getting bigger and younger every year.”

Carl Anderson, the Supreme Knight of the Knight of Columbus also cautioned us, “that the lives of the unborn are not the only ones whose lives hang in the balance with the rise of the Culture of Death. This year we face new threats citing in particular doctor-assisted suicide, which several states have taken moves towards legalizing.”

The energy level of the heroic, new young guard is awesome and encouraging. They are there for life. They exhibited a remarkable degree of control and discipline, which became so evident as the March was ending in front of the Supreme Court, where they were met by a militant group of pro-death demonstrators (150 or so) who stretched across the road. They just stood there and allowed the police to guide them.

  1. I’ve been going to the March for the last 11 years or so (last year the snowstorm prevented me from attending since the buses were cancelled). This year my oldest son (20 years old) attended his first March, he was amazed. The march is getting younger and bigger, however the mainstream (Liberal) media is completely ignoring it since it doesn’t fit their agenda. How can they miss 500,000 people or so? A few years ago (2004 to approximately 2006) the NY Daily News had a small blurb near the end of the paper, no pictures, etc. Now there is no coverage from them whatsoever. Two years ago after Sandy Hook there was a demonstration for Gun Control the day after the March. The NY Daily News put the event attended buy “Almost one thousand demonstrators” on pages 4 and 5. My wife watches the local news and of course there was nothing again this year. I just hope that Congress passes HR 36 which would prevent abortions on babies older than 20 weeks since it has been proven that they feel pain. Just remember we have the truth on our side, we just have to keep on chipping away.
