Letters to the Editor

Witnesses for Life

Dear Editor: We read with delight and interest the story and accompanying photo of Emily Faugno (July 11) in The Tablet. We think your readers would be interested to know that Ms. Faugno is not only a maker of rosaries for children she also served as a sidewalk counselor for the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants for 17 years.

During that time, she spoke with many women who would eventually choose life for their unborn babies. She is also the co-author of the book, “Dancing in the Rain” with Margaret Driscoll, which relates some of her experiences on the streets of Queens promoting the culture of life.

Emily’s love for God is evident to everyone who has met her and her unfailing cheerfulness is inspiration to us. When she retired form sidewalk counselling, she would not accept any gifts or a party in her honor, rather she gave everyone who prayed and counseled with her a handmade “Job’s Tear” rosary.

May God continue to bless Emily and her family.

Dear Editor: For years, the witnesses of Helpers of God’s Precious Infants stood outside abortion facilities. Being an active member of this international apostolate that was formed by Msgr. Philip Reilly, I stood with a small group every Saturday morning at the All Women’s Medical Pavilion on Queens Blvd. We pray the mysteries of the Rosary, the Stations of the Cross and other prayers in the Helpers’ prayer book. In a friendly manner, we try to approach those entering the abortion facility while handing them our palm booklets.

As Catholics, we are all called to proclaim and speak out against abortion, even as so-called Catholic political leaders outwardly support pro-choice positions. We all should not support or vote for them.
