William H. Underwood of East Northport, N.Y., and formerly of Port Richey, Fla., died Sept. 30.  He was 96.

Born in Brooklyn, Underwood served as a soldier in World War II.

He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, June Underwood (nee Berry).

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 8 in St. Anthony of Padua Church, East Northport.

He is survived by his long-time friend and companion Doris Fazio; sister-in-law Dorothy Maier, and several nieces and nephews, including William Maier (Carol), the chief operating officer of the DeSales Media Group, parent company of The Tablet and NET-TV.
