Dear Editor: In Mr. Yang’s letter (May 2) on “Not Buying Global Warming,” he states that “earthquakes are not caused by fracking.”
However, the U.S. Geological Survey has determined that the earthquake swarms occurring in Oklahoma are most likely caused by the millions of gallons of waste water, recycled from fracking operations, that are acting as a lubricant along the fault lines. Earthquake prediction and cause is not a perfect science, but the USGS has a great reputation in this field.
