Our Youth

The Sacrifice of an Eagle Scout

For the past two months, 15-year-old Life Scout Theodore Veroutis of Boy Scout Troop #531 in Brooklyn has been collecting over 500 canned goods and other non-perishable food items to benefit those we serve at Catholic Charities Food Pantries.

As part of his Eagle Scout Service Project, which is a requirement to become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank obtained in the Boy Scouts organization, Veroutis and other fellow scouts enthusiastically delivered over 30 boxes of food to Catholic Charities’ food pantry at St. Mark parish, Sheepshead Bay.

Since February, Veroutis set up numerous food collection boxes in his community so that friends and neighbors could donate canned goods. He also collected over $400 in donations from his friends, family and members of the local community for his food drive, which he used to purchase additional food to benefit the hundreds of families served at our food pantry.
