The Immaculate Conception

Dear Editor: The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception celebrates that Mary, “Full of Grace,” through God was redeemed from Original Sin from the moment of her conception. Sadly, very often sarcastic and arrogant references by ignorant commentators and contemptuous comedians in disdainful jest, and sadder still, even by otherwise “practicing” Catholics.

For some, it might proclaim a serious irreverence, and for others, it might be a blasphemous irreverence. So much for studying or even referencing the Catechism of the Catholic Faith as part of being informed about the more salient points of the teachings and doctrine of our Church.

“O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.”

My Christmas prayer is that you – The Tablet staff and your families – will be recipients of God’s most abundant and profound, gifts, graces and blessings during this Christmas season and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
