Saul of Tarsus, whose conversion to the faith we celebrated on Jan. 25, is a fascinating man. We can learn many things from his life and conversion, most especially that it’s okay to be human, provided we allow grace to build upon our human nature.
Saul was no angel. We know from Acts of the Apostles that he was “breathing murderous threats” against the early followers of the Way. He was zealous for the Jewish faith, or at least his brand of it, and by his own admission, he was the chief persecutor of Christians.
But when he was knocked off his horse and saw the light, he fell in love with Christ and that fed and led his friendship with others. May St. Paul continue to inspire us.
