The 31st Annual Great Irish Fair 2012

The 31st Great Irish Fair was held Sept. 15-16 in Coney “Ireland.” Organized by the Irish American Building Society Charities, the Fair benefits Catholic schools in Brooklyn and Queens.  Thousands of attendees passed through the Fair grounds over the course of the weekend, but the highlight was the award ceremony recognizing notable men and women of Irish descent.

Retired Auxiliary Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan was the main celebrant of the opening Mass. Attendees enjoyed Irish fare, including corned beef and cabbage and fresh soda bread, while listening to traditional and modern Irish music.
Sister Breige Lavery, R.S.M., recipient of the Kathleen Slattery Women of the Year Award, was congratulated by fellow Mercy Sisters.
