Letters to the Editor

Thank You, Nurses, Police Officers, Priests, Cashiers

Dear Editor: The artist Scott LoBaido created a beautiful gesture erecting large white letters of thanks for the healthcare workers on the front lines (“Healthcare Workers Get Big ‘Thank You,’” April, 11).

I’d also like to thank the EMTs and paramedics, firefighters and police officers, grocery store workers and delivery persons, bus drivers and train operators, and so many other essential workers. They’re putting public service ahead of their own safety.

And there is one other group we’d like to thank — parish priests. Many of us have been watching Mass online since the very first days of isolation. I’d like to mention three parishes in particular, although of course there are countless others.

Our sincere thanks to Father Bill and Father Jim at St. Frances DeSales in Belle Harbor; to Fathers Fonti and Barozzi at St. Mel’s in Flushing; and Father Sean and Msgr. Funari at Holy Family in Flushing.

You have brought daily mass to us, have shared the Word of God, and have told us that we are loved. What a beautiful gesture. Thank you.
