Queens Student Turns Night Terrors Into Award-Winning Science Triumph at St. Francis Prep

Since she was 12, Yanchen (Angela) Wang, now 17, has stressed about falling asleep. Whether waking up or dozing, Angela, a senior at St. Francis Preparatory School, has heard odd noises, like feet stomping and people yammering in an unidentifiable language. She called these frightening episodes “auditory hallucinations.”

Lab Blessing

Auxiliary Bishop James Massa blessed a new STEM lab at St. Brigid-St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Academy, Bush- wick, on Sept. 10. Bishop Massa also blessed the school’s new playground and recently renovated auditorium before celebrating a school-wide Mass.

The U.S. may be short as many as three million high-skilled workers by 2018, according to National Math + Science Initiative predictions. In response, more educators and schools are embracing the idea that today’s curriculum must include Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).
