At the Diocese of Brooklyn’s annual Mass for World Mission Sunday on Oct. 20, Father Thomas Ahern spoke of how the late Bishop Thomas Daily (1927-2017) would rush to join the missionary field in remote areas of Peru, where he often traveled in a dilapidated Volkswagen Beetle, or on horseback.
For 25 years, there has been a rite of passage at St. Bernadette Catholic Academy. Each eighth grade student is given a role in a living performance of the Passion, performed for their family, younger classmates, and parishioners on Good Friday.
Middle school Catholic students from across the diocese faced off in the annual Math Bee, putting their quick-thinking skills to the test. After winning at their respective schools, 30 students from sixth to eighth grade came together in Father Dooley Hall at St. Helen Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
At a World Mission Sunday Mass Oct. 22 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, two Catholic schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn were honored for their contributions to the work of Catholic missions around the world.
