Mozart Adds to Local Sounds of Remembrance

St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral, Prospect Heights, reverberated with the sounds of the 18th century when Mozart’s Requiem was performed as part of a 9/11 remembrance liturgy. Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio was the main celebrant of the annual liturgy for the 23 members of FDNY Battalion 57 who died on Sept. 11, 2001 in the terrorists’ attacks on the World Trade Center.

15 Years Later, Memories Still Vivid

My dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, As we approach the 15th anniversary of September 11th, the terrible terrorist attack on the twin towers in New York; the State Department in Washington, D.C.; in Shanksville, Pa.; and, in fact, all of our Nation, we recall the lingering pains of those horrific events. The fact is, we never will forget, nor never can we forget what happened on that day. This is because in a real sense this brought us to understand the conflict between good and evil in our world.

Memorial Mass, Mozart’s Requiem Dedicated to Victims of Sept. 11

Pope Leads Prayers for Victims of 9/11 Attacks

After silently praying at the 9/11 Memorial in Downtown Manhattan Sept. 25, Pope Francis entered the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, where he mourned the victims of the “senseless act of destruction” and asked more than 400 religious representatives to be prophets of reconciliation and peace.

Interreligious Leaders To Pray with Pope at 9/11 Memorial

On Sept. 25, Pope Francis will visit the World Trade Center memorial site of the 9/11 attacks, where nearly 3,000 people were killed by terrorists in 2001. He plans to pay his respects to the victims of the attack and meet with local religious leaders for a Multi-Religious Meeting for Peace.

Remembering in Bensonhurst

On Sept. 11, the students of St. Athanasius School, Bensonhurst, under the direction of their principal, Diane Competello, held a remembrance ceremony to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11/01.
