The Ten Commandments are getting a lot of attention these days. A week after Louisiana passed a law requiring public school classrooms in the state to display the Ten Commandments, Oklahoma’s superintendent of public schools announced in a memo that all state schools are required to incorporate the Bible and the Ten Commandments in their curriculums for grades 5 through 12.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court denied a request Nov. 14 by the State Department of Education and Ryan Walters, Superintendent of Public Instruction, to intervene in a case about a potential Catholic virtual charter school in the state.
A state school board in Oklahoma voted Oct. 9 to approve a contract with a Catholic charter school set to open next school year, making it the nation’s first state-funded religious school.
