Bayside Parish Celebrates 90 Years With ‘Giving Back’

Parishioners at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament in Bayside, Queens wanted to celebrate their 90th Anniversary with a dinner/dance, but the pandemic squashed their plans. Instead, they chose to divert ticket money for the event into charitable giving. And they didn’t stop there.

The sign outside Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Academy in Bayside simply promoted a fundraiser on Feb. 27 with celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich. But the three-hour event turned into a fan fest with Bastianich dishing out food, recipes and her life story, while 215 attendees savored the opportunity to get close to her, ask questions and have a photo taken with her.

60 Years Ordained

Five priests of the Brooklyn Diocese are observing their 60th year of priesthood. They were ordained May 31, 1958 by Bishop Bryan J. McEntegart at St. James Pro-Cathedral in Downtown Brooklyn.
