Young Journalists Refine Their Skills at Tablet’s H.S. Press Awards

“Teens talk to teens differently,” said Paron. “That’s why high school journalism matters.You can talk to other young people and get a story that no one else can get. If you’re not talking to them, that means 26 percent of the population isn’t getting their voice heard and part of the tenet in journalism is to be a voice to the voiceless.”

Two Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst, senior girls’ hoops players, Kaitlyn Stenz and Kim Soriano, are all set to continue their education and basketball careers in college.

Hoops Old-Timers Still Talk Plenty of Game

The Old-Timers hosted its 58th annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner May 5 at Sirico’s Caterers in Dyker Heights. Five new members – of which four were products of the local CHSAA – were enshrined for their basketball accomplishments as they joined the list of over 200 deserving inductees.

Jack Alesi, the former varsity boys’ basketball coach at Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, was inducted April 1 into the school’s athletic hall of fame.

CYO Springs Into Two New Sports

This spring, CYO is proud to announce that it will begin offering two new sports: flag football and boys’ volleyball. The addition of these brings the total amount of sports offered by CYO to 15.
