Representatives from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops celebrated Mass Jan. 20 at the tomb of two Maryknoll sisters from the U.S. buried El Salvador — where they were murdered in 1980 — and called them “martyrs” and “models” for the Catholic Church.

Maryknoller Earns Matteo Ricci Award for Ministry with China
Maryknoll Sister Janet Carroll, founding executive director of the U.S. Catholic China Bureau, was the recipient of the organization’s 2017 Matteo Ricci Award, an honor bestowed upon people who best exemplify the bureau’s mission to build a bridge of friendship and service between the Catholic Church in the U.S. and China.

Maryknoll Sister Jane Zawadzki M.M., died on Aug. 3, at the Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining, N.Y. She was 88 and she had been a Maryknoll Sister for 66 years.
