Joining in a special hour of prayer held simultaneously throughout New York state on May 16, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio led local members of the Knights of Columbus before the Blessed Sacrament and the icon of Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians in a service at St. James Cathedral, Downtown Brooklyn.
Students’ Works a Portrait of Joy at Tablet’s Easter Art Contest
That spirit was on display at The Tablet’s 12th annual Christ Is Risen Easter art contest on May 15 in Dyker Heights. The awards ceremony, co-sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Archbishop John Hughes Council No. 481, was held at the council’s center.

Vice President Mike Pence made a surprise appearance at the rally for the 46th March for Life, the annual protest event that draws tens of thousands of pro-life activists to the nation’s capital to mark the anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion.
2018 Keep Christ in Christmas Art Contest Winners
For weeks leading into Christmas, more than 500 entries poured into the Tablet Newspaper offices filled with colorful pieces of artwork created by students from Catholic academies, high schools and churches from around the diocese. Once again, handcrafted as labors of love, the young artists’ work showcased how they keep Christ in the Christmas season.

The annual Bernie Catcher Memorial Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service which is now going 10 years strong was held at Temple Sholom in Mill Basin/Bergen Beach.
Brooklyn Knights Deliver Hope to Florence Victims
Before the day ended Oct. 2, a caravan of men traveled more than 500 miles south of the Brooklyn border to drop-off thousands of pounds of relief and recovery supplies for those affected by tropical storm Florence in North Carolina. Except instead of representing the organization with the familiar logo of a red cross, these men will represent a different crest: the red, gold and blue Knights of Columbus councils from both St. Finbar and Most Precious Blood in Bath Beach.
