To celebrate the impact of Catholic journalism, The Tablet sponsored a special Mass for journalists on Saturday, Sept. 23. The Mass was celebrated at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph in Prospect Heights by Bishop Robert Brennan, and Bishop Emeritus Nicholas DiMarzio, Msgr. Sean Ogle, and Father Christopher Heanue concelebrated.
With the flip of a switch, the Diocese of Brooklyn’s official Christmas tree came to life on Wednesday, Dec. 14, with 16,000 twinkling lights shining brightly against the evening sky.
Students throughout the Diocese of Brooklyn opened their classrooms to authors and special guests during the 4th Annual Great Diocesan Read Aloud. Bishop Robert Brennan and Christine Persichette, anchor for Currents News, and the authors read to students via videoconferencing.
Calling him a “true leader in journalism,” Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio presented the St. Francis de Sales Distinguished Communicator Award to local journalist Errol Louis. Bishop DiMarzio bestowed the award, which recognizes an individual who has made exemplary contributions in the communications field, during a virtual event on May 26.
The Third Annual Great Diocesan Read-Aloud (GDRA) was another success across the Diocese of Brooklyn. Guest speakers, including authors, clergy members, first responders, and congresswomen, virtually visited 30 diocesan classes to read their favorite stories to the students.
