As I recently celebrated the second anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood, two things came to mind. In one sense, I felt that my ordination took place only yesterday and in another, it seemed as if I have been a priest my whole life. Hence, the mystery of the priesthood! In a priest’s life, no two days are ever the same.

B’klyn Diocese to Pay $27.5M to Abuse Victims of Lay Volunteer
In one of the largest known settlement payouts for sex abuse within the Catholic Church to date, the Diocese of Brooklyn confirmed Sept. 18 that it and another defendant would pay $27.5 million to four victims of abuse at the hands of a volunteer at St. Lucy’s-St. Patrick’s Church in the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn.

Obituary: Juan Sans
Juan Sans, the brother of Father Pablo Sans, a retired priest of he Brooklyn Diocese, died May 27 in Spain, where the funeral was conducted. Father Sans currently resides at Our Lady of the Cenacle rectory, Richmond Hill.
Catholic Schools, Students Lose Again
Last week’s decision by the New York State Legislature not to include the proposed Education Tax Credit in the state budget was a blow to Catholic schools in New York. It’s likely that more schools will have to close. It’s definite that fewer students will be offered scholarship money.

Dear Editor: Thank you for the informative death notice about Dr. Robert Muccigrosso (May 23). I wish to shed some light on Robert Muccigrosso, the man. Bob, as the assistant principal at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, hired me to teach at the school in August of 1973. That began 42 years of mentorship and great friendship.
