Bishop Prays with French Community in Brooklyn

After a man in a truck deliberately ran down hundreds of people in Nice, France, killing 84, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio joined the local French community in St. Agnes, Boerum Hill, July 17, to pray for the deceased.

At Candlelight Vigil, Bishop Leads Prayers For Peace and Justice

More than 1,500 people participated in a candlelight vigil of prayer and peace Tuesday evening, July 11 at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. Led by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, leaders of various religions offered prayers and called for calm in the wake of the assassination of five police officers in Dallas, Texas, and the deaths of two black men by white police officers in Baton Rouge, La., and St. Paul, Minn.

Unacceptable Accusations

Dear Editor: I am a devout reader of the N.Y. Daily News and was recently angered by the accusations made against our Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio by Assemblywoman Marge Markey, who claimed that the Bishop offered her a $5,000 bribe to withdraw legislation she was introducing that would punish church institutions who cover up sexual abuse against minors and extend the statute of limitations.

Queens Assemblywoman Slanders Bishop; Catholic League Calls for Her Resignation. Bill Donohue, president of The Catholic League, fired back at the Daily News. He accused them of “slamming the Catholic Church. But this time they really did themselves in: They floated a front-page story by a notorious anti-Catholic bigot accusing a local bishop of bribery.”

National Day of Prayer Observed in Brooklyn

As the country marked the 65th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer, Brooklynites drew closer to God and to each other at prayer services sponsored by Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams. Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio attended an interdenominational service in East New York.

Almost 1,000 immigrants to Brooklyn and Queens joined Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio at the annual diocesan celebration of World Migration Day, April 30 at St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral, Prospect Heights.
