Massachusetts Bishops Urge State Senate to Reject Measure to Expand Abortion

The Catholic bishops of Massachusetts Nov. 17 urged the state Senate to reject a budget amendment that would allow girls as young as 16 to get an abortion with the consent of a guardian or a court. It would remove the current requirement in the law for girls under 18 to get parental consent for an abortion.

Colorado, Louisiana Voters to Decide on Abortion Measures Nov. 3

Abortion is on the ballot in two states Nov. 3: Colorado and Louisiana. In Colorado, Proposition 115 would ban abortion beginning at 22 weeks of pregnancy. The measure includes exceptions to save the life of the pregnant woman but not for instances of rape or incest.

Supreme Court Strikes Down Louisiana Abortion Law

In a 5-4 decision June 29, the Supreme Court ruled that a Louisiana law requiring that doctors who perform abortions have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals could not stand.
