As the anniversary of Sept. 11 approaches, we remember all the brave and innocent men and women who lost their lives 17 years ago. For a person my age, when I first was taught about the events that occurred on that day, it didn’t really sink in what happened.
Thomas Phelan, 45, of Brooklyn, passed away on March 16. He will be remembered for his heroic actions during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the countless lives he was able to save, and his years of service in the FDNY and to the City of New York.
Just as in previous years, FDNY Battalion 57 marched from the World Trade Center, across the Brooklyn Bridge, to St. Joseph Co-Cathedral, Prospect Heights, to remember the fallen heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

The passing of Bishop Thomas V. Daily evoked fond memories among all who knew him. Msgr. Ralph J. Maresca and Father Vincent E. Daily poignantly recalled their own thoughts in their touching homilies at the Mass of Transferral and the Mass of Christian Burial, respectively.
My dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, As we approach the 15th anniversary of September 11th, the terrible terrorist attack on the twin towers in New York; the State Department in Washington, D.C.; in Shanksville, Pa.; and, in fact, all of our Nation, we recall the lingering pains of those horrific events. The fact is, we never will forget, nor never can we forget what happened on that day. This is because in a real sense this brought us to understand the conflict between good and evil in our world.
