Young Ladies Support Each Other

Sacred Heart Catholic Academy Twirlers, Glendale, sponsored their 16th Annual Baton Twirling Contest. More than 60 twirlers from New York City attended the April 27 competition. The guest of honor was Cayla Kumar, the current Miss New York Outstanding Teen and a student of Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood. The King’s County Special Olympics and the Knights of Columbus present a day at the races “Top of Stretch” on June 30 at the Belmont Park. Tickets of $50 per person include beer, wine, soda and food. Reservatios are a must. Gates open at 11 a.m.; post 1:30 p.m.

The award-winning, nationally recognized art department of St. Francis Prep will be present its year-end Spring Arts Festival.

The show, “Myths, Legends and Folk-Lore,” will feature students films from 11 a.m. to noon in the school’s auditorium. The gallery showing, featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures, etc., will begin at 11:30 in Prep’s Art Education Center. From noon to 1:30 p.m., there will be performing arts presentations in the auditorium. At 1:30 p.m. there will be a fashion show in the auditorium.   The show will conclude with 100 students being inducted into Prep’s chapter of the National Art Honor Society.

Some new elements of this year’s show include a separate senior gallery, as well as craft sales, including student made jewelry. Current Prep students and alumni will be performing live jazz and there will be face painting.
