This week’s Tip of the Tablet TALK Top Hat goes to Our Lady of Perpetual Help (O.L.P.H.) Catholic Academy, South Ozone Park. The school was blessed to welcome Father Rodrigo Miranda, IVE, who spoke to the students and faculty about the hardships of the Syrian people, especially in the town of Aleppo, where he has been serving as a missionary for three years. He and the other missionary priests there provide 17,000 meals per day to Christians who have been devastated by the attacks on Aleppo. Under these difficult conditions, they continue to celebrate Mass and serve the needs of the people. Moved by the words and images he presented, the O.L.P.H. school community held a dress-down day to collect funds that will go to assist the community of Aleppo. Way to go!

tt-pinkday_stroselimaRockaway Students Are Powerful in Pink

Everyone donned pink at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Academy, Rockaway Beach, for a breast cancer awareness fundraiser. Under the direction of tuition secretary, Linda Kittle, who organizes this annual fundraiser, students in second through eighth grades formed a symbolic pink ribbon in the school yard. In all, $636 was collected and upon seeing the “ribbon,” the school board’s treasurer Bernard (BJ) Duffy, made a generous donation to round out the students’ collection to an even $1,000.
