‘Tis the Season to Twirl

Weeks after superstorm Sandy ravaged the East Coast, author Carol Hollenbeck is calling on New Yorkers to round-up a bag of books and help put them in the hands of those without televisions, radios and other technology. People are invited to donate books by dropping them off or mailing them to the Renaissance Diner, 776 Ninth Ave. at 51st St. in Manhattan, now through Dec. 15. Books may be dropped off 24 hours a day.
All are invited to a service of Lessons and Carols at St. Joseph Seminary, Dunwoodie, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m., and Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. No tickets needed. Free-will offering accepted. For details, call the seminary, 914-968-6200 ext. 8203.
Parishioners at Holy Family-St. Thomas Aquinas, Park Slope, invite neighbors to join them for Christmas festivities at Hershey Park, Dec. 15. The legacy of Sister Mary Patrick McCarthy, G.N.S.H., late principal of Blessed Sacrament School, Jackson Heights, will never be forgotten now that the corner of 94th St. and 35th Ave. in Jackson Heights has been co-named Sister Mary Patrick McCarthy Way. Sister Mary Patrick, who died in 2002, grew up on 94th St. and served as principal of Blessed Sacrament on the same street for 35 years. The recent street naming is also a tribute to the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart and their lay colleagues who taught at the school for nearly three-quarters of a century.

Scouts Help Glendale Grow
Autumn blooms are fading, temperatures are dipping and winter is just a few weeks away. But these girls, above, have their sights set on spring, when they will get to feast their eyes on the bright yellow fruits of their labors. Brownie Troop No. 4941 and Cadette Troop No. 4121 from Sacred Heart parish, Glendale, recently planted daffodil bulbs around the parish convent and school.
