The late Joe Austin will always be remembered on the local level for shaping the lives of countless youngsters through the game of baseball. To honor those efforts, the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in Troy, will induct Austin this November in an eight-member class that also includes Frank Viola, Lee Mazzilli, Ken Singleton and Orel Hershiser.
Austin founded the sports program at the now defunct St. Monica parish, Jamaica, and coached scores of baseball players, including recently deceased former N.Y. Gov. Mario Cuomo.
