Starting Jan. 25, along with the rest of the country, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Academy in Woodhaven, is celebrating Catholic Schools Week.
This year’s slogan is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” In response, the school halls are lined with messages from the students, who share their thoughts on service to others. The students and staff are committed to reaching out and sharing their gifts with others. This spirit of community service is only one aspect of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Academy.
The school curriculum follows both the New York State Standards and the Brooklyn Diocesan guidelines. In educating the whole child, the academy has incorporated many courses including: Spanish, technology/computer skills, music, art and physical education. To assist those students who need academic support, there are Title I remedial reading and math services. The academy also offers special education resource room classes for those students with Individual Education Plans (IEP).
St. Thomas the Apostle is an innovative and modernized school. Each classroom is equipped with desktop computers and there is a computer lab in each building. The students have access to over 40 laptops and Chrome Books that are used in a variety of ways for both teaching and learning. With the guidance and skills of the dedicated faculty, St. Thomas the Apostle students traditionally excel on New York State tests and are accepted into many fine Catholic high schools.
The academy is committed to educating all students to reach their potential so that after they graduate they continue to spread the Good News of the Gospel as leaders in their communities.
The school motto is “Seeing is Believing.” The students, families and staff believe that the school offers a unique and caring learning environment.
The school community invites you to come and see what the academy has to offer during one of the following Open Houses:
