St. Mel’s Catholic Academy serves the Whitestone and Flushing community with a dedicated staff and strong leadership, bringing academic excellence to students in grades nursery through eighth.

1:1 Chrome Book Program
As the only elementary school in the Diocese of Brooklyn with a 1:1 take home Chromebook program, the academy provides students with their very own Samsung Chromebook.
The strong focus on technology includes Wi-Fi throughout the school, SMART Boards in every classroom, iPads, laptops and state-of-the-art computer labs.
High Academic Standards
The academy holds high academic standards in all grades and curriculums. Students are consistently accepted into highly competitive, specialized high school programs in New York City.
Upon graduation, 100 percent of students are accepted into Catholic high schools. $350,000 in full and partial scholarships were granted to St. Mel graduates.
Athletic Achievement
The long history of athletic achievement includes championships in baseball, soccer, volleyball and basketball. Students learn the foundational basics of sports while fostering collegiality and sportsmanship.
Extracurricular Activities
The academy also offers an array of extracurricular activities including student council, cheerleading, yearbook, Girl Scouts, band, Oratorical Society, and youth ministry.
