St. John’s Hoops Teams Raise Cancer Awareness

The St. John’s University, Jamaica, men’s and women’s basketball teams partnered with the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) on Saturday, Sept. 24 for the sixth annual Dribble for the Cure event.

The players and coaches Chris Mullin and Joe Tartamella led participants in a 30-minute walk dribbling basketballs around the campus to raise awareness to help save the lives of children battling cancer.

Since the first time the event was held in 2011, Dribble for the Cure has raised nearly $300,000.

All proceeds benefit the PCRF Laboratory directed by Mitchell S. Cairo, M.D., at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and New York Medical College. Dr. Cairo’s work had directly increased rates of survival among childhood cancer patients.
