From St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn
Recognizing their outstanding performances on the court and in the field, Breezy Point natives and St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn, Clinton Hill, student-athletes Lauren GaNun (Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge) and Shannon Fahy (Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst) received weekly honors.
GaNun, a sophomore middle hitter on the Lady Bears’ volleyball team, has been named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) women’s volleyball Player of the Week. Fahy, a sophomore midfielder on the Lady Bears’ soccer team, was named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) women’s soccer Player of the Week and HVIAC women’s soccer Rookie of the Week.
GaNun helped provide the punch to the Lady Bears’ offense, averaging 4.6 kills per set while hitting an efficient .350 as St. Joseph’s moved back to .500 on the season and notched a pair of league victories this pat week.
The sophomore recorded her second double-double of the season slamming down a career-high-tying 20 kills with a career-high 16 digs over King’s (N.Y.) in their HVIAC opener. The middle hitter has recorded double-digit kills in each of St. Joseph’s eight matches.
Last week’s AD3I women’s volleyball Player of the Week now leads the Lady Bears with her 117 kills and ranks first in the HVIAC averaging 4.18 kills per set and also tops the league with a .341 hitting percentage.
Fahy helped power the Lady Bears’ women’s soccer team’s first win of the season, tallying three goals in the conference win over Medgar Evers and played a part in eight goals in total, finishing with a school-record five assists and 11 points.
The rookie sophomore scored her team-leading fourth goal against HVIAC-undefeated Albany Pharmacy, only the second surrendered by the Panthers in league play this season. The midfielder now has a team-high 13 points on the season which ranks her third in AD3I, and Fahy’s five assists places her atop the rankings in AD3I.
GaNun’s award is the second earned by a member of the women’s volleyball team this season following the sophomore’s AD3I accolade last week. For the sophomore, it is the third time that she has been recognized as Player of the Week by the conference after earning the honor on Oct. 9 and Oct. 16 of last season.
Fahy earns the first accolade by a Lady Bear this season and the first of her brief career.
