Exciting New Initiatives Propel Academics

This academic year, St. Edmund Elementary School is introducing exciting new initiatives that will propel our academic program into the future. The students will participate in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)-based schoolwide interdisciplinary projects that will enhance their critical thinking as well as their research skills.

Reviving Robotics

An Aquinas Enrichment Program for academically talented students will be introduced in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Plans have been undertaken to revive St. Edmund’s award-winning “Nerd Herd” Robotics Group. In 2009, the group’s “Thingamajig” robot won the NYC First LEGO League Robotics Championship.

St. Edmund Elementary shares a unique and collaborative relationship with St. Edmund Preparatory High School.

Eighth graders are invited to participate in high-school level math and science classes. Students from the Prep complete their community service requirements by assisting as tutors and class helpers in the early childhood classes. The inclusion of Spanish in the curriculum prepares students for a workplace that is now a global society requiring proficiency in more than one language.

Family-Oriented Feel

The distinctive architectural style of the school building that also houses St. Edmund Church, creates a charming and peaceful environment that enhances the spirituality that is integral to all school programs and activities. The school community, consisting of many members who have been generational parishioners of St. Edmund parish, enriches the family-oriented atmosphere.

The dedicated faculty of St. Edmund Elementary School works diligently to nurture students’ spiritual, social and emotional maturation, as well as their academic growth and development. The goal is to prepare each student to reach his or her goals in a caring and intellectually stimulating learning environment.
