St. Bernard Catholic Academy

Teaching With Love for Over 50 Years

“We Teach with Love” is the motto at St. Bernard Catholic Academy, a private Catholic school serving the academic and spiritual needs of students from age 3 to grade eight in Mill Basin, Bergen Beach and the surrounding communities.

The school opened a new chapter in its more than 50-year history when it transitioned to St. Bernard Catholic Academy. The school adopted a new name and governance model, but maintains its long-standing tradition of academic excellence.

Under the guidance of a dedicated staff and trusted leadership, students thrive academically, spiritually, intellectually and emotionally in a safe, respectful atmosphere. Kindness, compassion and a rigorous curriculum, rooted in the standards set forth by New York State and the Diocese of Brooklyn, are designed to inspire students to be lifelong learners. More challenging work is given to those who learn at an accelerated rate, while one-on-one assistance is available for students who need that extra help to achieve personal success.

Above-average standardized test scores reflect students’ academic strength, and Regents classes in math and science prepare students for their high school careers.

Seeking to empower students to be global citizens of the 21st century, the development of faith and morals is also crucial. Students learn about Catholic faith and respect toward self and others as exemplified by Jesus in the Gospels. They have many opportunities to put their faith into action through monthly service projects and outreach efforts in the local and greater New York City community.

Recognizing that technology skills are crucial for college and career readiness, students are exposed to practical, responsible and ethical uses of technology. This fall, personal digital devices (iPads) are being provided to all students in grades three through eight. The technology lab was renovated over the summer to be state-of-the-art, and SMART Boards are used in every classroom.
