St. Bernadette School, an NCLB National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, continues to thrive spiritually and academically.

The Dyker Heights school is persistent in maintaining and upgrading staff, resources and facilities so as to keep pace and surpass the ever-growing demands of technology and curriculum. The school community’s diligence has produced two NCEA distinguished teachers and likewise, the principal was recognized as the NCEA Distinguished Principal, both honors reflect national acknowledgement.

St. Bernadette School offers a strong Catholic academic environment. In addition to learning about faith and allowing it to permeate each day, the school values academic achievement. The community reaches to meet and exceed standards in all areas; giving every student the opportunity to reach his or her potential.

The community is very proud of the class of 2014, which earned over $205,000 in scholarships from high schools in the metropolitan area such as: Xavier, Xaverian, Dominican Academy, Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bishop Kearney, St. Edmund, St. Joseph by the Sea, St. Saviour and St. Vincent Ferrer.

St. Bernadette School has a faculty comprised of religious sisters and dedicated lay teachers who collaborate to build a caring community based on the tenets of Jesus Christ and a strong academic foundation for its students.

St. Bernadette provides studies in religion and a Common Core-based curriculum, as well as special content areas of Italian, technology, art, music and physical education. The curriculum is supplemented with, among other things, the Accelerated Reader program, Mathletics and a Latin and Greek Roots Challenge program.

Extracurricular activities provide students an opportunity to develop leadership skills, areas of interest and personal talent. An active student council provides the student body with events and gatherings. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in the hand bell choir, school band, book club, choir, violin, craft club, confectionary club, geography club, chemistry club, Mathletics Club, altar servers and Aquinas program. Students who thrive on academic challenge engage in math, history, geography and spelling bees. Similarly, gifted students are recognized by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and the Junior National Young Leaders Conference.
