>> Alvarado’s New NBA Season

Jose Alvarado, a Catholic Youth Organization product of St. Ann’s, Flushing, and former star at Christ the King H.S., Middle Village, has begun his second season with the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans. The 6-foot guard is currently a reserve player who is expected to see significant minutes played this season.


>> Klein Remembered

Archbishop Molloy H.S., Briarwood, held a special basketball game on Oct. 22 to honor the memory of fallen firefighter and Molloy alum Timothy Klein, ’08. The event was co-hosted by the Badges Alumni Network and the Stanner Alumni Center and pitted the FDNY team against the NYPD squad.

The 31-year-old Klein spent six years with the FDNY’s Ladder 170 before dying in the line of duty on April 24 as he battled a three-alarm blaze in Canarsie. He was a parishioner at St. Francis de Sales, Belle Harbor, and played on the Stanners basketball team.


>> Prep Honors Responders

St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, will hold its annual Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, Oct. 24 to pay tribute
to first responders who have graduated or have been a part of the Prep community.

The First Responder Alumni Chapter committee honored Marc Hamlin, ’84, Retired Assistant Chief of Police, Tampa, Fla. Police Department; Eddie Boles, ’81, FDNY Battalion Chief; and John Corbisiero, ’82, NYPD Inspector.

This year, the committee will also recognize health care workers who are front and center in the fight against COVID- 19. All proceeds benefit the St. Francis Prep First Responders Memorial Scholarship Fund.
